About Me

Hi! My name is Katrina, I am so happy you are here! Willow Brooke Equestrian is approximately 15 acres, located just north of Drayton Valley, AB in the hamlet of Rocky Rapids.

Growing up, I competed heavily in the AQHA all around circuit before becoming devoted to the 4-H program with projects including horses, beef, and swine. As I got older, I focused less on showing and more on training; mostly in barrel racing and the hunter/jumper world instilling a strong foundation on my horses with natural horsemanship and dressage basics.

Coming back into the show world as an amateur, I struggled to find quality, affordable riding apparel which inspired the creation of our brand Derby Clothing Company. During this time, I owned and retrained several off the track thoroughbreds before moving to Alberta and starting Willow Brooke Equestrian.

My program starts with a solid foundation from the ground to give the horse a clear understanding of expectations and give them tools to seamlessly transition into under saddle work. My aim is to give horses as much experience and miles with minimal stress, keeping them relaxed and trusting.

I truly believe that all disciplines can benefit from both groundwork and proper dressage foundational skills. We mix training sessions between ring work, field work, and trail rides to keep horses engaged with proper fitness. Just like myself, I also like my horses to cross train with their discipline for overall health, training, and exposure.

Little Brown Derby “Kato”

2011 Thoroughbred Gelding

Kato was adopted from New Stride Thoroughbred Society in Spring of 2017. We went on to compete in BC on the Hunter/Jumper circuit with many top placings. But our favourite past time was our long trail rides and adventures. Kato is now enjoyed by my mom in the working equitation and dressage arenas with a forever home on our farm.

Airwaves “Dean”

2012 Thoroughbred Gelding

Dean was purchased in Spring 2020, where we spent a majority of the year getting his vet and chiropractic work up before starting fitness training. Starting in 2022 we competed very successfully in dressage and jumpers with big goals for the future on the eventing circuit. Dean has some ongoing needs and is a forever resident with me.

Rhiannon’s Fancy “Rory”

2018 Welsh Pony Mare

Rory was purchased Spring of 2021 with the aspiration of being a children’s mount and broodmare to pass along her unique colouring, personality, and most importantly amazing confirmation and disposition. I do not foresee Rory leaving our farm anytime soon, she has become resident baby sitter for all new and young horses.

DSF Let It Go “Sven”

2021 APHA Thoroughbred Gelding

Sven is a unique, promising prospect and barn favourite introduced to the herd in Winter 2024. He was lightly started under saddle in 2024 and started going on small field trips. Our plans for this season include getting him into the dressage and jumping arenas to start his promising show career. Sven may be available to approved home and program in the low 5 figure sale price subject to change with training and showing experience. For an update on training and sale price please contact.

Cookie

2024 Grade Appaloosa Mare

Cookie is a new member of the farm and is enjoying pasture time growing up and getting lots of loving and brushing sessions. We will wait to see what she has in store the next couple years but would love for her to mature into a family trail horse years down the line.

Timbit

2022 Grade Appaloosa Mare

Timbit just recently joined the farm and is starting light ground work until the snow and ice melts. She will be started and offered for sale this Spring. I see her being an incredible ranch or rodeo/gymkhana mount with her bold nature, however, I do think with time she could be a nice all around mount or 4-H project. Offered to experience home in the mid 4 figure sale price subject to change with training. Please contact for a current training and price update.
